About Green Build Kentucky

Green Build Kentucky is a voluntary program based on the NAHB Green Building Guidelines* and the federal Energy Star Program.  Homes built according to these standards will be certified by a third part verifier as an official GreenBuild Kentucky home.

The Green Build Kentucky Taskforce is made up of builders, suppliers and Association staff and has become a part of the national movement toward energy efficiency and sustainable construction.  The Taskforce is promoting the certification program at HBAK meetings, energy conferences and through green building orientation sessions taught throughout Kentucky by Dr. Robert Fehr, Extension Professor, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department, at the University of Kentucky.

The Green Build Kentucky Guidelines are aligned with the NAHB guidelines but require that Section 3 and Section 6 be met.  These sections require that all Green Build Kentucky homes are Energy Star homes and that the home buyers receive a Home Instruction Manual that educates them on how to use their home in the most efficient manner.
